Using the Motion Sensor 360 - Volt Free with Savant

The Faradite Motion Sensor 360 range is compatible with several Home Automation systems including Savant. In this blog we take a detailed look at integrating our Motion Sensor 360 - Volt Free with Savant.

The Faradite Motion Sensor 360 Volt Free has a silent volt free relay which closes for the duration of motion plus ~1second when motion is sensed. When connected to a GPIO on a Savant system the signal can be utilised in Racepoint Blueprint to provide a great range of automation functionality.

We have 2 varieties of our Motion Sensor 360 range: The Volt Free variety that has just a motion detector and the 0-10V variety which has a motion sensor with an integrated brightness sensor. Currently Savant does not support analog inputs for 0-10V so we are only looking at the Volt Free variety in this blog.

Wiring the Sensors

There are a range of Savant controllers you will be able to connect the Faradite Motion Sensor 360 – Volt Free to. You can also connect directly to the Savant SmartHost, just look for a GPIO on the connections. The list below shows all the options:

All the above Savant devices will be wired to the Motion Sensor 360 range in the same way, by connecting the Volt Free relay on the sensor to the GPIO and adjacent GND on the controller. In each case the motion sensor will need to have power supplied from an external 5-35V DC power supply.

The following example shows the SmartControl12 as it is the most commonly used controller.

Now the motion sensors are connected to the Savant system lets take a look at how to commission them in Blueprint.

Configuring the Motion Sensor 360 – Volt Free in Racepoint Blueprint

Faradite sensors provide a normally open output with a 1 second timeout. The signal / trigger from the PIR can be used for countless applications in a Savant system your imagination is the only limit.

**NB. No additional drivers (or ‘profiles’) are required as you can use the Generic GPIO Sense profile from the default library.

Once you have your profiles ready you can connect the dots. Take the output from the Motion Sensor 360 Volt Free and connect it to the GPIO on the SmartHost.

We look forward to seeing how people are using the Faradite Motion Sensor 360 Volt Free with the Savant Trigger Engine to create unique solutions for automating. Lighting, AV, Heating etc.

Why not add a few of our MOTION SENSOR 360 BLACK- VOLT FREE to your next cinema to turn the AV off if the room is left for over 4 hours with no movement (make sure you have a large timeout…!).
